Aga Baieeee!
Today I read this shocking news in DNA - You had beet be nice to your bai. I was surprised, amused, dumbfounded, flabbergasted, frustrated, irritated and felt like doing something to make the laws of my land in the interest of the comman man!
It is unbelievable. In the present scenario, working women are at the mercy of these bais. I know how difficult it is to get their work done properly from them! And then bear their tantrums. Each day there is a set of instructions given to them that is easily broken in a few days. They have no shortage of leaves. They take many already. We give them proper food (let me stress here - no leftovers. The same fresh food we make for overselves), enough leaves, we give in to their demands for increments and Diwali bonuses. They conveniently take leaves on all the festivals and attend all their marriage functions (in their families and communities) and they look after their kids also (most of them do not have a full-day job). Even their demands of getting good quality powder, brushes, detergents, clips, etc. etc. are met on time. Their style of working is what we adjust to; mind you: they do not work as per the way we want them to work. We dread even raising our voice on them if they have done something that has caused major loss of money or property. The once-a-while cleanliness they do is a big favour on us! They are also paid conveyance in the form of railway pass and extra money for bus tickets. If you sack a maid, they spread your bad name in their whole colonies and ensure that you do not get another one for a very long time!
After being FED with all this, they have an excuse for coming late each day, attending all their functions (trust me they celebrate festivals and marriages - all of them, even the ones we don't have time for), taking timely leaves (they have to take leave when we have guests or when we plan to do some safai or on bank holidays), the audacity to back answer for any issue raised against their work, not accepting their mistakes and making us feel guilty. When they see clouds, they complain of water accumulation and do not turn up. We working women have to bear the rush and push and mucky roads and all the possible odds but make it some how that our office work does not suffer. The maids also deny if they do not like the food that is given to them (and I am not taking about left-overs). Working mothers who have such maids as baby-sitters will then have to take a weekly off on the day the maid decides to take.
And then this bill (that they propose to pass) does not have any provisions to make these domestic servants more accountable or punctual. This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. That means after all these benefits, we do not stand to expect any kind of sincerity or punctuality from them.
The ministers by passing this only stand to gain. They have a bunch of maids/helpers all the while. It would not affect them in any way. We already shell out 10% of our salaries to pay these arrogant and selfish maids. Once this bill is passed, they know that their vote banks will be flourishing! I do not know how long will we have to bear the brunt of such selfish and irresponsible ministers!
I call upon all the working women to protest against this bill and ensure that they never never pass such kind of unacceptable bill.

All their demands make sense if one considers them as human beings and not machines/ animals. I dont know of many families who have food with their bais in the same dining table. How many families let their bais sit in their sofas? We treat them as untouchables and they too believe that its perfectly alright.
